Hi my friends! I’m thrilled to invite you to my upcoming Online Workshop start from September 21, 2024 focused on Portrait Pen Drawing in “Engraving” style. This workshop is all about exploring the techniques that bring your subjects to life on paper, capturing their essence and emotion, and make it look like a classic “engraving” piece.

Whether you are a beginner with no drawing experience or have certain skills in art, you are welcome to join! This workshop is designed to offer practical insights, personalized feedback, and hands-on practice. You’ll learn the essential techniques of Proportion, Loomis Method, Shading, and “Engraving” style expression to improve your portrait pen drawing techniques.

What to Expect

In this workshop, we’ll explore various concepts and techniques in Portrait Pen Drawing including:

  • The Fundamental Concepts of Portrait Drawing

Master the essentials of Portrait Drawing including Human Head and Face Components Proportion, The Loomis Method, Simplified Form, and Constructive Sketching.

  • Fundamental Shading Theory

Learn the fundamental theory of Shading in visual art, from Value Scale to Key Shading Components.

  • Portrait Cross-Contour Technique

Express the 3D structure of human head and face components with Cross-Contour technique. You’ll learn how to analyze the portrait surface from the simplified forms to realistic expressions.

  • Portrait Shading Techniques

Applying the Shading Theory to express the value on portrait drawings and bring it to life on paper.

  • Portrait “Engraving” Pen Drawing

Learn to draw portrait with pen using multiple techniques and make your work look like an “Engraving” piece with Cross-Contour, broken lines, and line weights adjustment.


Workshop Details

This workshop will include a total of 12 hours of learning, divided into 6 sessions, and will only be held on Saturdays and Sundays (3 weeks of learning). Below is the detailed schedules and information of the workshop:

  • Week 1: September 21 & 22, 2024

  • Week 2: September 28 & 29, 2024

  • Week 3: October 05 & 06, 2024

  • Time (for Live Sessions): 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM (EDT) | Toronto, ON, Canada Time Zone

  • Platform: Zoom

  • Recording & Review: All the lessons will be recorded and can be reviewed within 30 days.
